Product Detail
Aviation fuel is a specialized type of petroleum-based fuel used to power aircraft. It is generally of a higher quality than fuels used in less critical applications, such as heating or road transport, and often contains additives to reduce the risk of icing or explosion due to high temperature, among other properties.
Most current commercial airlines and military aircraft use jet fuel for maximum fuel efficiency and lowest cost. These aircraft account for the vast majority of aviation fuel refined today, which is also used in diesel aircraft engines. Other aviation fuels available for aircraft are kinds of petroleum spirit used in engines with spark plugs
Dedicated carbon steel pipelines are used to transport jet fuels to airport depots. In addition to their external coating and cathodic protection systems, the fuel pipelines have an internal coating applied to mitigate corrosion and fuel contamination. The pipelines should be piggable so that the capability for periodic cleaning and inspection is ensured. Pigs should be designed so as to not damage the internal coating.
Flow rate in pipelines is limited on the lower side by the self scouring velocity, typically 1.5 to 2 m/s and on the higher side by erosional velocity, typically 4 m/s or static electricity consideration which is 3 m/s.
For API 5L line pipe, it includes PSL1 and PSL2 level.
PSL-1 is a loose standard quality for line pipe, whereas PSL-2 contains additional testing requirement, stricter chemical physicals, along with different ceiling limits of mechanical properties, and require Charpy impact testing conditions.
Furthermore, additional testing requirements under PSL-2 include CVN testing, non-destructive inspection of seamless products, certification to SR15, and mandatory traceability throughout the entire production process. Most FERC, DOT, or FEMSA lines require PSL-2, meaning these types of requirements are a must when supplying pipe for pipelines that are regulated by any of these governing bodies.
